BOEOTIA, Federal Coinage. Circa 395-387 BC. Stater (Silver, 12.45 g). Boeotian shield. Rev. ΒΟ-ΙΩ Amphora with fluted body and prominent handles; above, bow with string above. BCD Boiotia 8. BMC 48. Traité II, 3, 369 = pl. CCIV, 31. Beautifully centered and in high relief, an unusually nice coin though with a slightly double-struck reverse. Extremely fine.

This is an amazingly fine example, far better than any in the BCD collection. The centering of the obverse is exceptional and gives the shield, the emblem par excellence of the Boeotians, a remarkably sculptural quality.
