KINGS OF PAEONIA. Lykkeios, Circa 359-335 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22.5 mm, 12.78 g, 6 h). Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΛΥΚΚ-ΕΙΟΥ Herakles, nude, holding his club in his upraised right hand, battling the Nemean lion to left; to right, behind Herakles, bow and quiver. Paeonian Hoard 63 (same dies). SNG ANS 1019 (same dies). A very sharp, toned and attractive example. Extremely fine.

ILLYRO-PAEONIAN REGION. Damastion (Dardania). Circa 330-280 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 12.82 g, 6 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΔΑΜΑΣ - ΤΙΝΩΝ (retrograde N) Tripod lebes with lion’s feet on a small base. May - (style close to 92-93). Boldly struck in high relief, lightly toned and with an obverse of slightly barbaric style, seemingly modeled on the tetrobols of Philip II. Flan fault on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

THESSALY. Pherai. Circa 460-440 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 5.87 g, 9 h). Γ-Λ-Α The hero Thessalos, nude but for petasos hanging down behind his back, striding right; restraining a bull rushing to right by use of a band, held with both hands, that passes around the bull's head. Rev. Φ-[Ε]-R-Α-Ι Bridled horse trotting to right, with trailing rein; to left, lion’s head fountain spout with water pouring from its jaws; all within incuse square. BCD Thessaly II 682. Jameson 1105. Very rare. Toned and attractive, but with slightly rough surfaces, nevertheless, one of the finest known early drachms of Pherai. Good very fine.
