LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 400-350 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.26 g, 9 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing an Attic helmet adorned on the bowl with Skylla raising her right hand as if to shade her eyes as she looks off in the distance. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right; in exergue, fish to right. Cf. HN III 1804 (distater). SNG ANS 1000-1 (same obverse die). Very rare with Athena facing to the left. Porous, otherwise, about very fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 440/35-400 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 7.49 g, 5 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with olive wreath; behind neck, owl standing to left. Rev. ΥEΛ-HT-Ω[N] Lion attacking stag to right. Gulbenkian 105 (same dies). HN III 1270. SNG ANS 1255 (same dies). Williams 162 (O107/R124). The obverse struck from a particularly well-engraved obverse die of very fine Classical style. Lightly toned. Griffito and minor roughness on reverse, otherwise, very fine.
