KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.95 g, 2 h), Alexandreia Troas, c. 280-275. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on backless throne, holding eagle with closed wings on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; in field to left, horse grazing to left over thunderbolt; below throne, monogram. An unpublished variant, see Price 1588 var. (cf. CNG e418, 247, same dies?). Extremely rare. Lightly toned. Minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
