LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 340-334 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 22.5 mm, 7.55 g, 7 h), from the "Θ" group. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with griffin. Rev. YEΛHTΩN Lion walking to right; above, Φ; below, Θ. HN III 1287. SNG ANS 1307-8 (same dies). Williams 295 (O164/R227). Attractive, clear and struck on a broad flan. Early die break on the obverse, the evolution of which appears on Williams 296, otherwise, very fine.

From a Swiss collection, acquired before 2005.
