Gordian III, 238-244. Antoninianus (Silver, 21.5 mm, 4.67 g, 6 h), a contemporary. perhaps Balkan, imitation of a issue minted in Rome in 239-240. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian to right. Rev. ORIENS AVG Sol standing facing, turning his head to left, holding globe in his left hand and raising his right hand. For prototype cf. Cohen 167 & RIC 213. An interesting imitation, of very good quality. About very fine.

P M TR P IIII COS II P P Philip standing left, holding baton and sacrificing over lighted altar. RIC - (cf. 75b but portrait to left and issued during his first consulate). A superb, bright and extremely sharp coin; a great rarity. Flan crack and die break on reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
