Brutus with P. Cornelius Lentulus Spinther, early 42 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18.5 mm, 3.64 g, 11 h), military mint, probably at Smyrna. BRVTVS Axe, simpulum and knife. Rev. LENTVLVS / SPINT Jug to right and lituus to left. Crawford 500/7. CRI 198. Sydenham 1310. Toned and attractive. Removed from NGC holder number 4883645-004, graded as VF strike 4/5 surface 2/5. Banker's marks on both sides, otherwise, very fine.

This rare coin was struck in an uncertain military mint in the East (Smyrna?) during the preparations for war against Marc Antony, Octavian and Lepidus.
