KINGS OF ARMENIA. Tigranes II ‘the Great’, 95-56 BC. Dichalkon (Bronze, 19 mm, 5.85 g, 3 h). Diademed and draped bust of Tigranes II to right, wearing five-pointed tiara decorated with a star between two eagles. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ TIΓPANOY BAΣIΛEΩN Grain ear with leaves in both sides. ACV -. CAA -. Kovacs -. Same obverse die as Obolos 12, 31 March 2019, 84. Unpublished and unknown apart from the examples sold in obolos and in Roma e17 (2015), 363 = Roma e5 (2014), 406; extremely rare. Very fine.

This coin has nothing to do with Kovacs 80 and CAA 107. The style is completely different as is the denomination. The three known examples share the same obverse die and they have an average weight of 6.01 grams which, according to Kovacs, is a dichalkon. This type is extremely rare, and has not been spotted due to its resemblance to the half chalkous.
