KINGS OF MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes, 306-283 BC. Hemiobol (Bronze, 20 mm, 6.22 g, 11 h), uncertain mint in Macedon or southern Greece. BAΣI ΔHMH Prow to left. Rev. Demetrios on horseback to right, wearing mantle and kausia and holding a long couched spear with his right hand; below, MY monogram. Newell 180, pl XVII 19. Only three examples were known to Newell, all in museums. Patina stripped, otherwise, good very fine.

Drachm (Silver, 16.5 mm, 2.65 g, 4 h), struck under the ministers Hermias and Zoilos during the Third Macedonian War, on the Rhodian standard, from an uncertain mint in Thessaly, c. 171/0. Head of Helios facing, turned slightly to right. Rev. EPMIAΣ Rose with bud to right; flanking the stem, Z - Ω . Price, Larissa, pl. LV, 247. SNG Keckman 795. Heavily toned; a very impressive coin on hand. Minor scratch on the reverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.

THESSALY. Methylion. First half of the 4th century BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 14.5 mm, 1.08 g, 12 h). Youthful male diademed head to right, with short, wavy hair. Rev. ΜΕΘΥΛΙ / ΕΙΩΝ Female figure (Hera or a nymph?) wearing long robes, seated right on high-backed throne, holding long staff in her right hand and resting her left on the neck of a bull standing right behind her. BCD Thessaly II 464 (same dies). Heyman -. Extremely rare, especially so clear and legible. Porous as usual, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
