KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.57 g, 12 h), struck posthumously under Seleukos I Nikator, Babylon, circa 311-300. Head of Athena to right, wearing triple-crested Corinthian helmet adorned with a griffin on the bowl, pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Nike standing left with her wings spread, holding laurel wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; below wing to left, monogram within wreath; to outer left, monogram of MI. Price 3749. SC 81.3. A splendid, well-centered, lustrous piece struck on a broad flan. Bangs on the obverse and on the reverse edge, minor scratch on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, Λ over torch; below throne, ΘE monogram. Ehrhardt 38. Price 463. Similar obverse die as Obolos 13 (2019), 211. Very attractively toned. Good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip III Arrhidaios, 323-317 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.83 g, 6 h), struck under Seleukos I Nikator, as satrap, Babylon (II), circa 318/7-315. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on a throne with ornamented back, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; to left, monogram above grape cluster on stem; below throne, Z. Price P155 (as Arados). SC CAd43.13. A toned example with a high relief portrait and struck from dies prepared by a very skillful artist. Some scuffs, otherwise, good very fine.
