KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 18mm, 8.62 g 6), Miletos, c. 325-323. Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with serpent; below neck, thunderbolt. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylus; to left, monogram of ΔΗ. Price 2077. Clear attractive and well-struck, with a large head of Athena. Extremely fine.


From the Chrysos Collection, acquired in Geneva in 1980.

This coin was struck during the lifetime of Alexander, and was part of his first issue of gold from Miletos.
