KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.91 g, 12 h), struck posthumously under Antigonos II Gonatas, Pella, c. 285-275. Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, monogram of ΦΥ; below throne, monogram of ΠYT. Price 568. A very attractive and rare later issue with a particularly artistic, bold, and stylish portrait of Herakles bearing the features of Alexander the Great. Very fine.

Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, serpent within wreath. Price 2820A. Extremely rare and one of the few that exist. Struck on a relatively broad flan. Reverse struck slightly off centre, otherwise, good very fine.

Head of Athena to right, wearing pendant earring, necklace and crested Corinthian helmet adorned with griffin leaping to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Nike standing left, holding wreath in her right hand and stylis with her left; to left, buckle above crescent over Α. Price P13A (this obverse die). Well centered on a broad flan. Good very fine.
