KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.08 g, 2 h), struck under Audoleon, Astibus (?) in Paeonia or Damastion in Illyria, c. 300-286. Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter with his left; to left, Λ over torch. Price 643b (same dies as plate coin). Waggoner, Audoleon issue I, 8 (same dies). A clear, well centered and well struck tetradrachm with a bold, high relief portrait and an attractive toning. Nearly extremely fine.
