BURGUNDIANS. Sigismond, 516-524. Solidus (Gold, 20 mm, 4.43 g, 6 h), struck in the name of Justin I, probably Lyon, but without any mintmark (the IS on the reverse has been interpreted as standing for the village of Isarnodorum, but it is more likely to stand for Sigismond), circa 518-524. DN IVSTI-NVS PP AVC Helmeted, diademed and cuirassed bust of Justin 3/4 facing, turned slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and with a shield over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTOR-I-A AVCCC IS / CONOB Angel standing facing, holding long cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left; to right, star. Belfort 5154. Lafaurie, Gourdon, pl. VI, p. 64/5. Lafaurie, Lyon 27 (same dies). MEC 340 (same dies). Very rare. A splendid, toned and well-struck example. Virtually as struck.

ΑΙΝ Α[Λ] / δαω (ligate) ΛΑC / Ο ΥΙΟC (= 'Ain al-Dawla, son). Rev. ΤΟΥ Μϵ / ΓΑΛΟΥ Μϵ / ΛΗΚΙ ΑΜΗΡ (ΗΡ ligate) / ΓΑΖΙ (= of the great king and amir Ghazi). Album 1239. ICV (Wilkes) 1301. Very rare. A clear example of a normally badly struck coin. Heavily cleaned down to reddish copper surfaces, now toning, otherwise, good very fine.

Titles and date Mare suckling foal to left. Rev. Name and title of Sayf al-Din Begtimur in three lines across field; name and title of Abbasid Caliph al-Masir around. Album 1889. ICV 1291. A remarkably sharp and attractive example, with a fine brown patina. Good very fine.
