Cruciform invocation monogram reading: Κύριε βοήθει; around, TΩ - CΩ / ΔΟΥ-ΛΩ (Lord please aid your servant). Rev. +NHK/HTA B'AC/ΠΑΘ' S ΔΟΜ/ ΤΩΝ Ο/ΠTHM in five lines within plain border. Possibly unpublished, Cf. DO 71.17. & Zacos 2624. A scarce seal giving the name of an otherwise unknown Byzantine officer. A few uncleaned spots, otherwise, very fine.

Cruciform invocation monogram reading: Κύριε βοήθει; around, TΩ - CΩ / ΔΟΥ-ΛΩ (Lord please aid your servant). Rev. [ΘΕΟΔΟ]/PΩ, B'ΠΡΙ [ΜI] / ΚΗΡ S ΠΡΑ[I] / ΠΟCIT, in four lines within plain dotted border. The combination of these titles are rarely encountered in seals. Struck slightly off centre, otherwise, very fine.

Remnants of the Saints' names above them. A cross above(?). Rev. BACIΛ / MITPOΠΟ / Λ ΛΑΟΔΙ / ΚHAC in four lines within plain linear border. An otherwise unknown seal. Old bang on the reverse, otherwise, nearly very fine.

Star of eight rays, with an indistinct letter(s) at the end of each, forming the invocation 'Κύριε βοήθει'; around, two borders of dots. Rev. ΒΑCI/ΛΕΙΩ ΡΑΙ/ΚΤΩΡΗ/ ΑΜΗΝ in four lines. From the same boulloterion (but by far superior) as the one that struck BZS.1947.2.842. A scarce seal, reading from the obverse to the reverse, Lord help Basil, Rhaiktor, amen. Very slightly off-centre, otherwise, good very fine.

Very similar on fabric and design, to the Obolos 20, lot 1448 example. Some uncleaned deposits, otherwise, very fine.

Seal of the Alexios Stoudites monastery!
BYZANTINE SEALS. Monastery of Alexios Studites, circa 1025-1043. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 15 mm, 2.52 g, 12 h), Constantinople. [ΘΚΕ ΒΘ ΤΩ CΩ ΔΟΥΛΟ] Half-length bust of the Mother of God holding Christ in her left arm. Christ holds a scroll in his left hand, and his right hand is supported in a sling formed by his robe. Rev. +ΦΥΛΑ / ΤΤΕ CΗΝ / ΜΟΝΗΝ / ΑΛΕΞ [IOY] / [KOPH] (Virgin guard your monastery of Alexios). DO 5, 38.1. Laurent 5.3,. 1897. Struck as usual on a very tight flan, otherwise, very fine.

O AΓΙΟS ΘΕΟΔΩΡΟS Nimbate St. Theodore, in military dress, standing facing, holding spear with his right hand and shield with his left. No parallel found. Extremely unusual and rare depiction of St. Theodoros slaying a dragon. About very fine.

Rev. -+-/ KE BOHΘH/ΘEI AΛEΞI/Ω ΠPOEΔPΩ / TΩ KOMNH/-NΩ- in six lines, within plain linear border. BZS.1951.31.5.16 (from the same boulloterion). A historical seal. Clear and with a tan patina. Very fine.

OA/ ΓP,/ΓO/P - O/ ΘE/O/ΛO/ΓO/S Nimbate bust of St. Gregorios the Theologos, in clerical attire, holding Book of Gospels in his left hand and raising his right hand in benediction; above, circular inscription with the invocation: +ΘKΕ BOHΘEI TΩ C ΔΟΥΛΩ. Rev. KE BΘ/ΛΕΟΝΤΙ/ Α CΠΑΘ ΕΠΙ Τ/ ΧΡΓΚΛ ΚΡΙ/Τ ΕΠΙ T, IΠ/Δ S EΞΑ/KT,P in seven lines of very abbreviated text; the whole within plain dotted border. Apparently unique, and with no other example known to the cataloguer. Nicely preserved and clear, with an unexpected representation of St. Gregory the Theologian. Stuck slightly off-centre, otherwise, very fine.

[KE BΘ] / EI MIXAHΛ / [Π]ΡΟΕΔΡω / ΔOYKΙ Τω /MAVPIK [A] in five lines within simple dotted border. BZS.1951.31.5.1168 (same boulloterion but misidentified). DO Seals 4, 1.6 var. Unusually well preserved and with fine glossy surfaces. Struck on a very tight flan like the other two known examples, otherwise, extremely fine.

O/ΘE/O/ΔΩ/P -T/O CΦ/Ω/P/Κ Nimbate and bearded facing bust of St. Theodore of the Sphorakion district of Constantinople, holding a spear over his right shoulder with his right hand and holding a shield with his left. Rev. +KE BΘ/ TΩ CΩ ΔOY/ IΩ MAΓIC/TPΩ S CTPA/THΓΩ ΤΩ/ NECTOΓ/ΓΩ in seven lines, within plain dotted border. Cheynet, Nestongoi p. 263- 264. DO 58.106. 4245 (same bulloterion). Jordanov, Corpus II p. 305. A very rare seal, probably the second known. Possibly the earliest documentation of the Nestoggos family. Unusual for its depiction of St. Theodoros of the Sphorakion. Light scrapes on the higher points of the obverse and on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

Iω/ ΔEC/ΠO/TH/S - O/ ΔOY/ΚΑ/C John III, standing facing, wearing crown with pendants, divitision and chlamys, holding labarum with his right hand and globus surmounted by patriarchal cross with his left. ΜΗΡ ΘΥ The Virgin Theotokos, nimbate, wearing maphorion and holding the facing nimbate Christ child on her lap, seated facing on elaborate, high-backed throne. Rev. CΦPΑΓΗC/ ΠΡΩΦΗΤΩΝ/ ΤΑC EMAC/ ΓΡΑΦΑC/TOIΠΟΝ (sic!) (St. John Prodromos please print our writings) in five metric lines. Possibly unique. An interesting metric seal, full of orthographic mistakes. Struck on a tight flan and pierced to be reused as a pendant, otherwise, very fine.
