Welcome, finally!, to Nomos 20. At the time of this was first written, in early March 2020, we were coming to the realisation that our auction was not going to take place on the 3rd of May: we never thought it would have to be put off to 10th of July!
KINGS OF PARTHIA. Arsakes I, 247-211 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.07 g, 12 h), Mithradatkart-Nisa (?). Beardless Head of Arsakes to left, wearing bashlyk. Rev. ΑΡΣΑΚΟ[Υ] krny = (Aramaic Commander-in-chief) Archer (Arsakes) seated to right on stool, holding in his right hand; below stool, monogram of ΜΤ. A&S Type 4, obv. 4/6, rev. 4/6. Sellwood 4.1. Sunrise 239 (this coin). Very rare and important. Toned and clear. Reverse slightly weakly struck, otherwise, good very fine.

KINGS OF PARTHIA. Phraates III, 70/69-58/7 BC. Drachm (Silver, 21 mm, 4.13 g, 12 h), Nisa, 66-62/1. Diademed facing bust of Phraates III, with mustache and short beard, wearing torque with central medallion and elaborate robes. Rev. BAΣIΛE[ΩΣ] / MEΓAΛ•V // APΣAV•V // [Θ]ΕOΠATOP•Σ / [E]VEPΓETOV // [Ε]ΠI+ANOVΣ / [KA]I +IΛEΛΛHNO[Σ] Parthian archer (Arsakes I) seated to right, holding bow; below bow, ΝΙ. Cf. Sellwood 35.8 (Darius). Sunrise 332 (this coin). A scarce issue from a rare mint. Bold and attractive. Some striking flatness on both sides, otherwise, extremely fine.

KINGS OF PARTHIA. Vologases VI, Circa 207/8-221/2. Drachm (Silver, 21 mm, 3.59 g, 11 h), Ecbatana. wz (Aramaic) Diademed bust of Vologases to left, wearing tiara with earflap. Rev. Stylized Greek legend in square form Archer (Arsakes I) seated to right on throne, holding bow; below bow, monogram. Sellwood 88,19. Shore 458. Sunrise 459. Unusually sharply struck on a broad flan, toned and very attractive. Reverse slightly double-struck, otherwise, extremely fine.

BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Diodotos I, circa 255-235 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.36 g, 7 h), in the name of the Seleukid king Antiochos II, mint A, in the area of present-day Aï Khanoum. Diademed head of Antiochos II to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ANTIOXOY Zeus Bremetes, seen from behind, advancing to left; his extended left arm draped with an aegis, and preparing to hurl thunderbolt with his right hand; in inner left field, wreath above eagle standing left. Bopearachchi 1A. HGC 9, 234 (Antiochos II). Holt Series A, Group 8. SC 630. SNG ANS 75. Test cut on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Demetrios I Aniketos, circa 200-185 BC. Dichalkon (Copper, 22 mm, 7.95 g, 12 h). Bearded bust of Herakles right, with his lion's skin around his neck and his club over his shoulder. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ Artemis, radiate and wearing hunting costume standing facing, holding bow in her left hand and, with her left, drawing arrow from her quiver over her shoulder; in left below, monogram of KP. Bopearachchi 4D. HGC 12, 68. MIG 109d. SNG ANS 205. With an attractive reddish copper patina. Some cleaning marks, otherwise, very fine.

Diademed and draped bust of Eukratides to right, wearing Macedonian helmet adorned with bull’s horn and ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ / ΕΥΚΡΑΤΙΔΟΥ The two caps of the Diokouroi, each with a palm branch beside it; below, monogram of ΗΜΑ. Bopearachchi 9C. HGC 12, 139. SNG ANS 496. Very sharp, perfectly centered, toned and unusually nice. Extremely fine.

Diademed bust of Eukratides to left, seen from behind, wearing Macedonian helmet adorned with bull’s horn and ear, and holding spear with his right hand. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΕΥΚΡΑΤΙΔΟΥ The Dioscouri, each holding palm branch and lance, galloping on horseback to right; below, monogram of ΦΤ. Bopearachchi, 8b. Mitchiner 179a. SNG ANS 485. Lightly toned, very well-centered and struck in high relief. Extremely fine.

"Maharajasa jayadharasa Amtialikidasa" in Kharosthi Zeus Nikephoros enthroned slightly left; to left, forepart of elephant to left, holding wreath in its trunk; below throne, monogram.
