MOESIA INFERIOR. Tomis. period of Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 17 mm, 3.32 g, 6 h). ΤΟΜΟΥ ΗΡΩΟС Diademed and draped bust left of the legendary founder of the city, the youthful hero Tomos. Rev. ΤΟΜΙΤΩΝ Bunch of grapes. AMNG 2553. RPC IV 4486 temporary number (same dies). An elegant, sharply struck coin with a fine, dark, blackish-brown patina. Minor flan crack, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

ISLANDS OFF IONIA, Chios. Time of Antoninus Pius to Commodus, 138-192. (Bronze, 23 mm, 7.05 g, 7 h), 1 1/2 Assaria, possibly minted early in the reign of Antoninus Pius, c. 138-145. XIΩΝ PR 525 Sphinx seated right, resting forepaw upon Chian amphora to right. Rev. ACCAPION HMYCY Two crossed thyrsoi within a vine wreath with a bunch of grapes hanging between the thyrsoi. BMC 126. Mavrogordato 114b. RPC IV online 982 (temporary number). SNG Copenhagen 1650 (same dies). A very attractive piece, with a dark and slightly rough patina. Extremely fine.

LYDIA. Hyrcanis. Time of Commodus to Caracalla, 177-217. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.66 g, 5 h). ΜΑΚEΔΟΝΩ Ivy-wreathed mask of Silenus to right. Rev. YΡΚΑΝΩΝ Youthful nude satyr dancing to right, raising his right arm and holding pedum with his left. BMC 2. Imhoof-Blumer MG 18. RPC Online IV 1746 (temporary number). Very rare. A beautiful piece, sharply struck, perfectly centered, and with a dark blackish-green patina. Extremely fine.

Prieur 63a. RPC 4164. Rare and in unusually good condition for the series. Struck from slightly worn dies, and with some deposits and die breaks, otherwise, good very fine.

Rev. DIVOS CLAVD VAGVST (sic) GERMANIC PATER AVG Laureate head of Claudius to right. RIC² 619-20 var., RPC I 3647 var., and Sydenham, Caesarea 66 var. (this type but with the spelling errors unnoted). A coin of unusually fine quality, very attractively toned and with very good portraits. Extremely fine.

Rev. ΙΡΗΝΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ ΕΤΟ ΒΜ The Tyche of Irenopolis seated to right on rocks, holding poppy, wheat ear and bunch of grapes in her right hand; before her to right, river god Pyramos swimming to right, facing outwards. Some uncleaned earthen deposits, otherwise, about extremely fine.

YΠ AYP• ΓAΛΛOY NIKOΠOΛITΩ / ΠPOC I Youthful Dionysos, nude, standing facing with his head turned to left, pouring a libation from a kantharos held in his right hand and holding a filleted thyrsos in his left. AMNG I 1306. Sharp, attractive and with a dark black-green patina. Some minor cleaning marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

ΟVΛΠΙΑC - ΠΑVΤΑΛΙΑC Hermes, nude but for cloak around his shoulders, standing to left, holding purse in his right hand and kerykeion with his left; at his feet to left, rooster standing left. Mouchmov 4305. Varbanov 5150. With an attractive dark green patina, and an unusual familiar animal, very well depicted. Very minor traces of cleaning, otherwise, about extremely fine.

ΑΡΙΑC - CΕΩΝ Dionysos standing left, nude but for his boots and a cloak over his shoulders, holding staff with his left hand and pouring from a kantharos held in his right; to left, at his feet, panther kneeling left, his head turned back to right. SNG Paris 1380. SNG von Aulock 5003. Von Aulock, Pisidien I, 438-445 (same dies). A very attractive piece, with a pleasing portrait of the teenage Caracalla and a green patina. Nearly extremely fine.

[CEΛEYKE / ΩN] / TΩN ΠPOC KAΛYKA Δ ΝΩ Dionysos, standing right in a biga drawn by two panthers, holding a thyrsos in his right hand and, in his left, a kantharos from which he pours wine over the head of one of the panthers, the head of which is turned back to left; to right, Silenos kneeling facing, his head turned to left and his right hand outstretched to catch some falling wine. SNG France 986. SNG Levante 746 = SNG von Aulock 5830. A very attractive, well-struck coin, with a fine olive-tan patina and a wonderfully detailed reverse. Extremely fine.

CYPRUS. Koinon of Cyprus. Caracalla, 198-217. Pentassarion (Bronze, 31.5 mm, 18.98 g, 6 h), Paphos. Μ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟC ΑVΓΟVCΤΟC Laureate head of Caracalla to right. Rev. ΚΟΙΝΟΝ ΚΥΠΡΙΩΝ The temple complex of the sanctuary of the Paphian Aphrodite, with the conical xoanon within a central tower flanked by two flat-roofed shrines, each containing an incense burner and with a dove on the roof; before, semi-circular forecourt; above star within crescent. BMC 60. Parks 25. SNG Copenhagen 92. Clear and nicely centered, with a dark, blackish-green patina and red earthen deposits. Very fine.

CΕΛΕΥΚΕΩΝ ΤΩΝ ΠΡΟC ΚΑΛΥ-Κ-Α -Δ-ΝΩ / C - Ε Dionysos standing left, wearing long robes and holding long staff (thyrsos?) with his left hand and pouring from a kantharos held in his right. Prieur 747 = SNG Levante 750 = SNG von Aulock 8708 (this coin). Extremely rare, if not unique. Toned, attractive and with an obverse portrait of distinguished quality. Very fine.
