ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ / 1911 Elderly head of George I to left; below truncation, in tiny letters, Γ. ΙΑΚΩΒΙΔΗΣ; below, flanking the date, privy marks cornucopia (for the Mint Director) and torch (for the Engraver General, Henri-Auguste Patey, 1896-1930). Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ Crowned and mantled shield bearing the coat of arms of the kingdom of Greece; below, • 2 ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ•; in tiny letters on the lower right field, ESSAI. Karamitsos T.76, KM E23. THRACE. Chersonesos. Circa 515-493 BC. Hekte or Sixth Stater (Silver, 12 mm, 2.75 g). Rider to right, holding two spears and treigns with his right hand. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. van Alfen, Chersonese, 20 var. (O1/R-, unlisted reverse die). Unusual fine condition for this rare and early type! Very fine.
