PHRYGIA, Sebaste. Nero, 54-68. Assarion (Bronze, 19mm, 5.95 g 1), Julius Dionysius, circa 55. CEBACTOC Bare-headed and draped bust of Nero to right. Rev. CΕ[ΒΑCΤΗΝΩΝ] ΙΟΥΛΙΟC ΔΙΟΝΥCΙΟC Zeus seated left on throne, holding an eagle in his right hand and a scepter in his left. RPC 3155. SNG Copenhagen 678-680. SNG von Aulock 3951. A most attractive piece with lovely dark patina, but with a slightly off-centered reverse. Extremely fine.

Philippopolis, Thrace. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 30mm, 21.22 g 1). ΑΥΤ ΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟC Bare-headed and draped bust of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ On left, the river-god Hebrus reclining to right, holding long water plant and with water below; before him to right, the Tyche of Philippopolis standing left, turreted and draped, holding out a patera in her right hand and holding a long scepter with her left. Varbarov - (but cf. 754, for the same reverse type but with a differing obverse). With a dark patina, a fine portrait and an elegant reverse. Good very fine.

Pontus and Bithynia, Nikomedia (?). Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Weight of 6 Pounds (Librae) (Lead, 203x127mm, 2980 g 12), a market weight made in the form of a double-sided stele with a triangular pediment and deeply recessed fields enclosed by an edge with beveled borders, regnal year 20 = 156/7. Within the pediment: figure of Tyche seated left, holding a rudder in her right hand and a scepter in her left. Below, in nine lines: ΕΤΟΥC Κ ΑΥ/ΤΟΚΡΑΤΟΡΟC/ΤΟ Β ΚΑΙCΑΡΟC/Τ ΑΙΛΙΟΥ ΑΔΡΙ/ΑΝΟΥ ΑΝΤωΝΕΙ/ΝΟΥ CΕΒΑCΤΟ/Υ ΕΥCΕΒΟΥC Κ/ΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙΟ/Υ ΚΑΙCΑΡΟC. Rev. Dark grey with some remaining earthen encrustations. Some gashes and bangs but, otherwise, good very fine.

Kibyra. Faustina II, 147-176. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 36mm, 25.18 g 6), alliance issue with Hierapolis, signed by the magistrate Cl. Philocles, 160s-170s. ΦΑΥCΤΕΙΝΑ CΕΒΑCΤΗ Draped bust of Faustina to right, her hair bound up with pearls in a bun at the back. Rev. ΚΙΒΥΡΑΤΩΝ Κ ΙΕΡΑΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ ΕΠΙ.ΚΛ.ΦΙΛΟΚΛΕΟC // ΟΜΟ-ΝΟΙ-Α On the left, Leto of Hierapolis, draped, veiled, and holding two infants at her breast, standing right, facing Zeus of Kibyra, seated left on throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and an eagle in his right. BMC 96 = Franke/Nolle 984 (same dies). Very rare, only eight examples, from a single obverse and three reverse dies, were known to Franke/Nolle. With a fine portrait. Very minor flan crack and slight double-striking on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.

AΥT K M AΥΡH ANTΩNINOC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to left, holding a spear in his right hand and a shield bearing a head of the Medusa over his left shoulder. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠ-ΠΟ[Π]ΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ Nike, with open wings, standing to left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond with her left. Varbanov - (but cf. 1639 and 1640, this reverse type struck under Geta). A pleasant example with a nice green patina. About extremely fine.

Philippopolis, Thrace. Caracalla, 198-2. Hexassarion or Medallion (Bronze, 38 mm, 29.90 g, 7 h), 214. ΑVΤ Κ Μ ΑVΡ CΕVΗ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟC Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right. Rev. ΚΟΙΝΟΝ ΘΡΑΚΩΝ ΑΛΕΖΑΝ / EΝ ΦΙΛΙΠ / ΠΟΠΟ Richly ornamented agonistic table with four legs; on top, prize crown inscribed ΠVΘΙΑ; below, palm and amphora. Varbanov 1424. Rare. Well struck and with a powerful portrait of Caracalla and a fine dark green patina. Two minor edge cracks from striking, otherwise. Extremely fine.

ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙΟC ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟC CΕΒ Radiate and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΚΕΝΔΡΕΙCΕΙΑ ΠΥΘΙΑ ΕΝ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟ / ΠΟΛΙ ΝΕΩ / ΚΟΡΩ Octastyle temple of Apollo Kendrisos with acroteria and disc in the pediment. Varbanov 1667. Rare. A large and attractive piece with a bold portrait and excellent blackish green patina. Extremely fine.
