LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 300-250 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 15 mm, 3.20 g, 6 h). Veiled head of Demeter to right. Rev. META Ear of barley with leaf to right and left; to left, monogram of EY. HN III 1693. Johnston, Bronze 57. SNG ANS 573. Attractive brown patina and excellent centering. Good very fine.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 280-213 BC. (Bronze, 18 mm, 5.98 g, 12 h). Head of Artemis to right, quiver at shoulder. Rev. ΘOYPIΩN / KΛE-ΩN Apollo standing left, holding phiale in right hand and lyre in left. HN III 1930a. SNG ANS 1196. Green patina. Very fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 490/85-480/75 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 7.77 g, 3 h). Bearded horseman, nude but for a helmet, riding to right, brandishing spear in his upraised right hand. Rev. CΕΛΑ-Σ Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Jenkins. Jenkins, Gela Group Ib, 45 (O14/R18). SNG ANS 8 (same dies). Minor roughness on the obverse, otherwise, about very fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 450-440 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 15.98 g, 11 h). Bearded charioteer driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses. Rev. CEΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right, the river-god Gelas. Jenkins, Gela Group IV, 367 (O72/R148). SNG ANS 67 (same obverse die). Struck from a worn obverse die, otherwise, very fine.

MOESIA. Kallatis. Circa 3rd-2nd centuries BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 6.90 g, 11 h), struck under the magistrate Eu... Wreathed head of young Dionysos to right. Rev. KAΛΛ above EY within Dionysiac ivy-wreath with ties below; above wreath, KAΛΛΑ; to left, filleted thyrsos. AMNG I/1 224. HGC 3.2, 1829. SNG Stancomb 83. Green patina. Light roughness, otherwise, about very fine.

MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 480-470 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 14 mm, 2.50 g, 8 h). Forepart of a lioness to right, her head twisted and seen from above, as if gnawing on her prey; above, acanthus. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. AMNG III/2, 11-13. Dewing 1000. SNG ANS 18-21. Very fine.

MACEDON. Amphipolis. late 5th-early 4th century BC. Obol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.37 g, 12 h). Male head to right (Apollo?), wearing tainia. Rev. A-M-Φ-I Fish swimming diagonally downwards to right. HGC 3, 416. Lorber Group II, 68 (O.o.2/R.o.2). SNG ANS 83-4. Very fine.

MACEDON. Neapolis. Circa 424-350 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 14 mm, 1.82 g, 6 h). Gorgoneion with protruding tongue facing. Rev. ΝΕΟΠ Head of the nymph of Neapolis to right, her hair coiled around her head and with a bun at the back. HGC 3, 588. SNG ANS 458. Light scratches, otherwise, good very fine.

MACEDON. Neapolis. Circa 424-350 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 11 mm, 1.01 g, 1 h). Facing gorgoneion with protruding tongue. Rev. NEOΠO Head of nymph to right; behind, uncertain symbol. SNG ANS 460-1 var. (symbol). Well centered, and with a dark green patina with earthen highlights. Very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Perdikkas II, 451-413 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 13 mm, 2.07 g, 12 h), light standard, Aigai, 451/0-447/6. Horse walking to right. Rev. Crested helmet right within linear border, all within square incuse square. HGC 3, 782. SNG ANS 37-41. An attractive, well centered piece, with light toning. Good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Perdikkas II, 451-413 BC. Heavy Tetrobol (Silver, 15.5 mm, 2.28 g, 1 h), Aigai(?), 443/2-438/7. Rider in Macedonian dress on horse stepping to right, holding two spears in his left hand and the reins in his right. Rev. Forepart of lion to right; all within incuse square. HGC 3, 791. Raymond Group IV. SNG ANS 47-51. Porous, otherwise, nearly very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas, 277/6-239 BC. (Bronze, 15.5 mm, 2.74 g, 6 h), uncertain mint in Macedon. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet. Rev. B - A Pan standing right, erecting trophy; between his legs, monogram of ΑΝΤ; to left, monogram of ΜΩ. HGC 3.1, 1049. SNG Alpha Bank 1044. Nice green patina. Flan flaws, otherwise, very fine.

MACEDON (ROMAN PROVINCE). Aesillas, quaestor, circa 95-70 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 15.43 g, 12 h), Thessalonica. MAKEΔONΩN Head of the deified Alexander the Great to right; behind, Θ. Rev. AESILLAS / Q Money chest, club, and stool; all within wreath. SNG Copenhagen 1330. Light porosity, primarily on the obverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

THRACO-MACEDONIAN REGION. Berge (previously Lete or Siris). Circa 525-480 BC. Trihemiobol or 1/8 Stater (Silver, 11 mm, 1.09 g). Satyr crouching to right; in fields, pellets. Rev. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square divided diagonally. HGC 3, 536. Peykov A0110. Smith Group 7. Struck in high relief, and of fine Archaic style. Good very fine.

THRACO-MACEDONIAN TRIBES, Mygdones or Krestones. Circa 490-485 BC. 1/8 Stater (Silver, 12 mm, 0.92 g). Goat kneeling right on pelleted ground line, his head turned back to left; above and to right, pellet. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. SNG ANS 59ff (as Aigai). SNG Copenhagen 31. Very fine.

THRACE. Abdera. Circa 473/0-449/8 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26.5 mm, 14.86 g, 3 h), struck under an uncertain magistrate (...el...utagores). Griffin springing to left. Rev. [...]ΕΛ[...]-ΥΤΑ-ΓΟΡ-ΗΣ: in shallow incuse square around quadripartite square in relief. May, Abdera Period IV, but otherwise unpublished. Seemingly a new magistrate for the series. Good very fine.

THRACE. Ainos. Circa 455/4-453/2 BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.09 g, 8 h). Head of Hermes to right, wearing petasos. Rev. Α - Ι Kerykeion; all set within shallow incuse square. HGC 3.2, 1273. May, Ainos, 75-84. McClean 3809. SNG Copenhagen 389. Find patina. Cleaning marks. Very fine.

THRACE. Ainos. Circa 458/7-455/4 BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.23 g, 7 h). Head of Hermes to right, wearing petasos. Rev. Α - Ι Kerykeion surmounted by crescent; the whole set diagonally across shallow incuse square. Jameson 1046. HGC 3.2, 1273. May, Ainos 61-66. McClean 3816. Flan fault at 3h and obverse off center, otherwise, very fine.

THRACE. Chersonesos. Circa 500 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 8 mm, 0.41 g). Forepart of a lion to right, his head turned left. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMC 3. HGC 3, 1436. Traité I 1801. Rare. Small notch at 11H and obverse struck slightly off centre, otherwise, good fine.

THRACE. Chersonesos. Circa 386-338 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 12 mm, 2.35 g). Forepart of a lion to right, his head turned left. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square with alternating raised and sunken quarters; pellet in one sunken quarter, pellet and monogram of EP in the other. BMC 35. McClean -. SNG Copenhagen -. Weber -. Good very fine.

THRACE. Mesambria. Circa 5th century. Obol (Silver, 7 mm, 0.46 g). Facing Corinthian helmet surrounded by pellets. Rev. Incuse punch. SNG BM Black Sea 265. SNG Stancomb 217. Cf. Naumann 18 (2014) 136 (as 'Asia Minor uncertain'). Same dies as CNG e332 (2014), 6. Rare. Struck slightly off centre, otherwise, very fine.

KINGS OF THRACE. Amatokos II, second reign, circa 359-356 BC. (Bronze, 25 mm, 16.98 g, 1 h), struck under the magistrate Kleandros. AMA-T-OKO Labrys with the handle forming the T of the legend; above, kerykeion to right. Rev. EΠI KΛE[AN]ΔΡΟ Grape arbor within linear square border. Peter p. 135, 1. Brown patina. Some roughness mainly on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

KINGS OF THRACE. Rhoemetalkes I, circa 11 BC-AD 12. Assarion (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.09 g, 6 h), with Augustus. BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ POIMHTAΛΚΟY Diademed head of Rhoemetalkes I to right. Rev. KAIΣAPOΣ ΣEBAΣTOY Bare head of Augustus to right. RPC I 1718. Youroukova 194-200. Dark green patina. Roughness, otherwise, about very fine.

ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 480-463 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 5.86 g). Nude, ithyphallic satyr rushing to right in the archaic kneeling-running position, holding a nymph in his arms who raises her right hand in protest. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. HGC 6, 331. Le Rider, Thasiennes 5. SNG Copenhagen 1010. Well centered and toned. Flan crack, otherwise, very fine.

ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 412-404 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 7.5 mm, 0.43 g). Head of bald and bearded Selinos to right. Rev. Θ-Α-Σ-I Two dolphins, one above the other, swimming left and right; all within shallow incuse. HGC 6, 340. Le Rider, Thasiennes 12. Slightly rough surfaces, otherwise, nearly very fine.
