CELTIC, Central Europe. Helvetii. Late 2nd - early 1st century BC. Scyphate stater (Electrum, 24mm, 6.82 g 9). Celticized head of Apollo with curly hair to right. Rev. Celticized charioteer driving biga to right; below, curious symbol (lyre?). Allen, SNR 53, 65. D&T 3081 = LT 8896 = Schleer 50, pl. IX. Very rare and unusually complete. Very fine.

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 276-272 BC. Hemistater (Gold, 14mm, 4.27 g 1). Head of youthful Herakles in lion-skin headdress to right. Rev. [ΤΑΡΑΝΤΙΝΩΝ] (partly visible) Ephebe driving galloping biga to right; above to right ΣΩΚ. Fischer-Bossert G 33. HN III 985. Vlasto 29. Rare. An attractive, clear and nicely centered example. Very minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

LUCANIA, Sybaris. Circa 550-510 BC. Stater (Silver, 30mm, 7.98 g 12). VM Bull standing to left on dotted ground line, head turned back to right; border of dots. Rev. Bull standing to right on dotted ground line; around, border of rays; all incuse. HN III 1729. SNG ANS 834 ff. Sharply struck and with an attractive patina as found. Extremely fine.

LUCANIA, Velia. Circa 535-510 BC. Drachm (Silver, 13mm, 3.89 g). Forepart of lion to right, devouring leg of stag. Rev. Incuse square. Dewing 451. HN III 1259. Williams 13b (O9/R6, this coin illustrated). A beautifully toned coin with a fine pedigree. Extremely fine.

CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS. Pantikapaion. Circa 340-325 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.49 g, 11 h). Bearded head of Pan to left, turned three-quarters facing to front. Rev. Π - Α - Ν Bull’s head to left, turned slightly to front. Anokhin 121. MacDonald 57. SNGBM 880. SNG Stancomb 548. Toned, attractive and boldly struck. Extremely fine.

CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS, Pantikapaion. Circa 310-304/3 BC. Multiple chalkous (Bronze, 21mm, 6.01 g 12). Bearded head of Pan to right. Rev. Π - Α - Ν Forepart of a winged griffin to left; below, sturgeon swimming to left. Macdonald 69. SNG BM 870. SNG Copenhagen 30. A beautiful, sharply struck coin with a fine dark patina. Extremely fine.

KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. 1/4 Stater (Gold, 9mm, 2.17 g 11), ‘Amphipolis’, c. 330 - c. 320. Helmeted head of Athena to right; crest ornamented with a serpent. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝ / ΔΡΟΥ Thunderbolt, bow and club. Price 165. An attractive, sharply struck and lustrous example. Extremely fine.

THESSALY, Krannon. Late 5th or early 4th century BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 8mm, 0.44 g 7). ΠΙ Young male head wearing petasos to right. Rev. Κ-Ρ-Α Horse’s head and neck to right, turned very slightly front. BCD 1437.1 (same dies). Extremely rare and of elegant style. Usual rough surfaces, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

THESSALY, Pagasai. Mid 4th century BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 8mm, 0.36 g 1). Laureate head of Apollo Pagasaios to right. Rev. Π-Α / Γ-Α Six-stringed lyre; all within shallow incuse circle. BCD 1223 (same dies). Of great rarity, unpublished except for the BCD catalogue. Rough surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

THESSALY, Pherai. Alexander, Tyrant, 369-359 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 15mm, 2.84 g 5). Youthful head of Jason to left, wearing petasos. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑ - ΝΔΡΕΙΟΝ Horse’s hoof and lower leg to right. BCD 1312 and Traité IV, 617, pl. CCXCIV, 18 (same dies?). Extremely rare. Well centered and attractive. Slightly rough, crystallized surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

THESSALY, Pherai. Alexander, Tyrant, 369-359 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 13mm, 2.87 g 6). Forepart of a bull to right, his head facing front. Rev. [ΑΛΕΞΑΝ]-ΔΡΟΥ Forepart of horse to right. Cf. BCD 1315. BCD II 708.1. Sharply struck with a dark patina. Nearly extremely fine.

THESSALY, Skotussa. Circa 394-367 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 12mm, 1.87 g 3). Head of youthful, beardless Herakles to left, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. Σ - Κ Kantharos. BCD II, 739.1 (same dies). Extremely rare, the second example known. Dark patina. Nearly extremely fine.

EPEIROS, Ambrakia. Circa 236-168 BC. Dichalkon (Bronze, 18mm, 4.53 g 5). Head of bearded Acheloos to right. Rev. ΑΜΒΡΑ Crab; above, monogram. BMC 18. CNG E-sale 98, 27 (same dies). SNG Evelpides 1772. Very rare, and normally found in poor condition. Flan fault on the obverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

BOEOTIA, Thebes. Circa 425-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 20mm, 12.12 g). Boeotian shield. Rev. Θ Ε Amphora with fluted decoration on the shoulder; hanging from the right handle, ivy leaf; above, club. BCD -, but cf. 391. Nanteuil 893 (this coin). A beautifully toned and very attractive coin. About extremely fine.

ATTICA, Athens. Circa 420-405 or very early 4th century. Tetradrachm (Silver, 21mm, 17.20 g 9). Helmeted head of Athena to right. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive spray and crescent moon. Cf. Svoronos pls. 17, 24 and 19, 3 and 5. A bold and attractive piece, very nicely centered. Extremely fine.

CORINTHIA, Corinth. Circa 560/550 BC. Stater (Silver, 20mm, 8.85 g). Pegasus flying to left, with curled wing; below, Ϙ. Rev. Incuse of millsail pattern. ACGC 220. BCD -. Ravel 19. Extremely rare and important. Slightly rough surfaces and with an obverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

CORINTHIA, Corinth. Circa 550-500 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15mm, 2.72 g). Ϙ Pegasos flying left with curved wing. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square in the form of a swastika. BCD Corinth 7 (same dies). BMC 29. A very attractive, well-centered and well-preserved example. Good very fine.

CORINTHIA, Corinth. Circa 375-300 BC. Stater (Silver, 19mm, 8.61 g 6), Ar... Ϙ Pegasos flying left with straight wings. Rev. Α Ρ Head of Aphrodite to left, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with a laurel branch and twig on the bowl; behind her neck, plow. BCD Corinth 108 var. Calciati 441. Clear, lightly toned and well-centered. Extremely fine.

ARKADIA, Kleitor. Circa 460-440 BC. Obol (Silver, 9mm, 1.03 g). Forepart of bridled horse to right. Rev. Incuse of mill-sail pattern with four raised and four sunken triangles. BCD Peloponnesos 1416 = SNG Lockett 2519 = Weber 2323 (same dies). Extremely rare. Good very fine.

ARKADIA, Pallantion. Late 5th - early 4th centuries BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 8mm, 0.47 g 9). Bare head of the eponymous hero Pallas to right. Rev. Ε / ΠΑΛ (retrograde) all within an incuse square. BCD Peloponnesos -. BMC 1 = Traité III, 994. Extremely rare. Very fine.

MYSIA, Kyzikos. Circa 500-450 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10mm, 2.68 g). Nude male figure kneeling to left, holding a tunny by the tail with his right hand. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMFA 1488. SNG France cf. 253 (stater). Von Fritze I 112. Very nicely centered and clear. Extremely fine.

TROAS, Lamponeia. 4th century BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 12mm, 1.85 g 12). Bearded head of Dionysos to right, probably wearing a simple taenia (not a wreath as has been stated). Rev. Λ-Α-Μ Bucranium within shallow incuse square. BMC 2. Minor die break on the obverse and some surface roughness. Very fine.

IONIA, Miletos. Circa 340-325 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16mm, 3.51 g 12). Laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. ΟΡΝΥΜΕΝΟ[Σ] Lion standing left, his head turned back to right; above, 8-pointed star; to left, Miletos monogram; in exergue, magistrate’s name. Deppert 197. Nicely toned and with a head of Apollo of fine style and high relief. Extremely fine.

IONIA, Phokaia. Circa 625/0-522 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 9mm, 2.58 g). Head of a bull to left, with a dotted truncation; below neck, seal swimming upwards. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Bodenstedt 10. A very attractive and well-struck example. Very minor die rust, otherwise, extremely fine.
