KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Hemiobol (Bronze, 19 mm, 6.57 g, 3 h), uncertain mint in Asia Minor, c. 323-310. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion’s skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ Club and bow in bow-case; below race torch; round countermark depicting lion-head punched against the bow-case. Price 2800. An attractive piece with dark brown patina; unusual variant lacking the name of the king. Good very fine.
