GAUL, Aedui. Doubno, c. 100-50 BC. Quinarius (Silver, 11mm, 1.98 g 2). Bust to left, wearing torque. Rev. ΔOVBNO Horse galopping right. CCCBM II S377-378. Depeyrot, NC 211. DT 3219. Flesche 263. A most attractive example finely toned and with an excellent reverse. Obverse slightly off center, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the Cologny Collection.

While we know very little about who Doubno was it is possible that he may have been a remote ancestor of the American president, George W. Bush, who was known by the cognate ‘Dubya’, possibly alluding to a putative Celtic origin.
