LUCANIA, Herakleia. Circa 340-330 BC. Stater (Silver, 7.93 g 6), signed by the engraver Atha.... [˫ΗΡΑΚΛΗΙΩΝ] Head of Athena to right, wearing a pendant earring, a simple necklace and a Corinthian helmet adorned with Skylla; behind neck, Κ. Rev. ˫ΗΡΑΚΛΗΙΩΝ Youthful Herakles standing facing, nude but for a strap across his chest and with the lion skin over his right arm, holding a bow and arrow in his right hand and a club in his left; to left, above, one-handeled jug; to left, in outer field, ΑΘΑ. HN III 1384. SNG ANS 76. Work 77. A most attractive example, nicely toned and very well centered. About extremely fine.

Ex Stack’s, 7 March 2006, 566 and Peus 380, 3 November 2004, 93.

This is a particularly elegant coin: its toning suggests that it comes from an old collection.
