BAKTRIA, Pre-Seleukid Era. Sophytes, circa 305-294 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 11 mm, 1.57 g, 11 h), imitating Athens, uncertain mint in the Oxus Region, c. 261-239/8. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with with three olive leaves over the visor and a spiral palmette on the bowl. Rev. ΑΘ[Ε] Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive spray and crecent; all within incuse square. Bopearachchi, Sophytes Group 1A. HGC 12, 9. SNG ANS 9-10. Lightly toned. Very fine.
