ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ / A 1883 Youthful head of George I to left; below truncation, in tiny letters, BAPPE. Rev. • ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ • Crowned and mantled shield bearing the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Greece; below, 1 ΔΡΑΧΜH flanked by the privy marks cornucopia (for the Mint Director) on the left and, on the right, a fasces (for the Engraver General, Jean Lagrange, 1880-1896). SICILY, Siculo-Punic. Uncertain mint. Circa 375-350 BC. (Bronze, 15 mm, 4.69 g, 9 h). Wreathed male head (Triptolemos?) to left. Rev. Horse galloping right. CNS 1. HGC 2, 1668. Well struck with a beautiful olive patina; among the best examples known! Ancient chip on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
