ITALY, Venice. Coinage for Dalmatia and Albania. Circa 1684 and later. Leone of 80 Soldi (Silver, 34.5 mm, 10.47 g, 5 h), struck under the doge Alvise II Mocenigo, 1700-1709, Venice, mintmaster Bernardo Gritti , 1705. S✶ M✶ V✶ ALOY✶ MOCENI Alvise II Mocenigo, kneeling to left, grasping long, cross-tipped scepter, and being blessed by St. Mark, seated to right; in the exergue, ✶G·B✶. Rev. Winged lion of St. Mark standing to left among the sea-waves, with his head facing, holding olive branch in his right paw; to left, Dalmatian fortress; in the exergue, denomination flanked by stars. Karamitsos DA.17c (mint error). KM 11. Montenegro 2269. Paolucci 806. Toned and well centered, and with a yery rare mint error: the mintmaster's initials inverted are transposed! No example has appeared in any auction in the past decades. Graded by NGC "VF details / rev. scratched". Cert number: 2909007-011.

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN. 4th century. (Glass, 21 mm, 1.88 g). Lion walking to left; above, crescent; all in relief on a honey-coloured disk with a rolled rim and suspension loop. Rev. Blank. Cf. Entwistle and P. Corby Finney, "Late Antique Glass Pendants in the British Museum," in C. Entwistle and L. James, eds. New Light on Old Glass. Recent Research on Byzantine Mosaics and Glass, London 2013, 54-6. Small scratches and some deposits, but otherwise intact. Good very fine.
