Reverse die, (27 mm, 7.46 g, 11 h). ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ, Crowned and mantled shield bearing the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Greece; below, 50 ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ; in the lower left field, ESSAI in tiny letters Rev. 50 F (retrograde). CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 281-276 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.57 g, 9 h), struck under the magistrates Si- and Lykon. Nude cavalryman striking downwards with a spear held in his right hand, with a shield over his far shoulder and holding two reserve spears in his left hand, riding a horse galloping to right; in the field behind him, Σ[Ι]; below, Λ[ΥΚΩΝ]. Rev. TAPAΣ Phalanthos, nude, holding a [small dolphin] in his outstretched right hand, riding a dolphin swimming to left. Vlasto 695; HN Italy 967; SNG ANS 1069-70. Nearly very fine.
