Andronicus II Palaeologus, with Michael IX, 1282-1328. Hyperpyron (Gold, 25 mm, 3.99 g, 5 h), Class II, Constantinople, 1294-1320. MP-ΘV /P Half-length figure of the Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls with six towers. Rev. Fragmentary inscription /IC - XC Christ standing facing, crowning Andronicus and Michael kneeling to left and right, respectively. DOC 256 (signa 69). SB 2396. Toned and unusually well-struck. Clipped as usual, and some minor marks and flatness, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired prior to 1975.
