MEROVINGIANS, Bourges (?), or uncertain mint. c. 620-640. Tremissis (Gold, 11mm, 1.37 g 6), Aminomdo (?). Uncertain legend Diademed head to right, the ties separated by four pellets. Rev. +AMINOMDO M Cross. Belfort -. NM -. Prou -. Probably unique and unknown. A fascinating and enigmatic coin. Extremely fine.

From the Cologny Collection.

The attribution to Bourges was suggested, faut de mieux by M. Dhenin and A. Pol (who provided the possible reading BETOREGAS / LAINOADOM), but neither had much confidence in those identifications. In addition, stylistically the obverse head looks like nothing known from Bourges, and the reverse legend seems almost impossible to expand into LAINOADOM. Thus we have yet another Merovingian uncertainty.
