SICILY. Messana. 450-446 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.31 g, 6 h). Charioteer driving biga of mules walking to right; in exergue, olive leaf with fruit. Rev. ΜΕΣΣΑΝΙΟΝ Hare springing right. Caltabiano 438 (D185/R177). Clear and attractive example; toned. Die break on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, and bought in the early 1950s from that of the late Dr. Naegeli in Zürich, who had acquired it prior to the 1940s.
