KINGS of MACEDON. Philip II. 359-336 BC. Stater (Gold, 16mm, 8.53 g 9), Abydos, struck under Philip III, BC 323-317, but probably before 319. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Charioteer driving galloping biga to right, holding the reins in his left hand and a goad with his right; below horses, four-pointed star and monogram of ΠΑΡ. Le Rider pl. 91, 14 (same obverse die). SNG ANS 300 var. (six-pointed star). Thompson, Abydos, 99b (this coin). An attractive and rare stater. Some scratches and edge marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
