Demetriadis and reverse master die by Albert-Désiré Barre, plain edge marked with a cornucopia and 1OR (=.916 fine gold) 6h. ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ / 1915 Laureate mature head of Constantine I to left; below truncation, in small letters, K. Δ.; in the lower right field, ESSAI in small letters. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ Crowned and mantled shield bearing the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Greece; below, ΔΡAXMH; in the lower right field, ESSAI in small letters. Unique and of the greatest historical importance! A remarkably beautiful and elegant coin; it is likely that the gold coins of 1915 were minted for the famous collection of Count Philippe Ferrary, which had a plethora of extraordinary gold coins. ANTΩNINOC AVΓOVCTOC IOVΛIA ΔOMNA Confronted laureate head of Caracalla right, and draped bust of Julia Domna left. Rev. VΠ KVNTIΛIANOV MAPKIANOΠOΛITΩN Dionysus, holding thyrsus, seated right on panther advancing right; Є (mark of value) to left. AMNG 670. H&J, Marcianopolis, 6.19.8.1 (R7); Varbanov 1021 (R5). Very rare, and with an attractive dark green patina. Minor marks, otherwise, very fine.
