MACEDON. Skione. Circa 480-450 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 12 mm, 2.02 g, 7 h). Bare head of Protesilaos to right. Rev. ΣKI Eye of ship within incuse square. SNG ANS 708. Nice metal. Very fine.

This coin is usually described in the bibliography as "Obv.male head to right Rev. human eye". In ancient Greek coinage we have the phenomenon that for the minor denominations of the Staters/Tetradrachms, like this one, die cutters used pieces of the main type depictions. Thus it is more plausible to assume that on this coin, fraction of the famous Protesilaos tetradrachms of Skione, we have the Depiction of Protesilaos on the reverse and a ships' eye on the reverse.
