Julia Paula. Augusta, AD 219-220. Denarius (Silver, 3.13 g 11), Rome. IVLIA PAVLA AVG Draped bust of Julia Paula to right, her hair in three waves and bound up in a queue at the back. Rev. CONCORDIA Concordia seated left on throne, holding a patera in her right hand; to left, star in field. BMC 172. Cohen 6. RIC 211. Lustrous and with a lovely portrait of the young empress. Virtually as struck.

Julia Cornelia Paula came from a distinguished Romano-Syrian family and seems to have been both attractive and intelligent; she was picked to be the wife of Elagabalus by Julia Maesa, probably in hopes that she might be able to stabilize him. In the end she was unable to control him and was divorced in 220.
