SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Antiochos II Theos. 261-246 BC. Stater (Gold, 8.52 g 12), Miletos, c. 250 BC. Head of Athena to right, wearing triple-crested Corinthian helmet adorned with serpent on the bowl, pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Nike standing left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm branch in her left; to left, monogram of ΠΑΥC. A. Houghton, Tarik Darreh (Kangavar) Hoard, ANSMN 25 (1980), 34 = Price 3785 = SC 548a (this coin). Extremely rare. A lovely coin of fine style, well struck. Good extremely fine.

This coin was apparently produced at Miletos in celebration of Antiochos I’s liberation of the city from Ptolemaic control.
