LUCANIA. Metapontion. Circa 290-280 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 18 mm, 7.73 g, 2 h). Diademed head of bearded Herakles to right, club behind his neck. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley with leaf to right; to right, kantharos; to right below leaf, ΒΙ. HN III 1621. Johnston D4.3. Kraay & Hirmer 248. Evans, NC 1918, pl. 5, 4 (obv. die). Very attractive, well-struck and nicely toned, with a very artistic and emotional depiction of Herakles. Some striking flatness on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
