LOKRIS, Lokris Opuntii. Circa 356-338 BC. Stater (Silver, 11.95 g 9). Head of Demeter to right, wearing wreath of wheat leaves, pearl necklace and elaborate, ‘boat’-pendant earring. Rev. ΟΠΟΝΤΩΝ Ajax, nude but for helmet, advancing right, hold short sword in his right hand and, with his left, a shield decorated with a griffin rushing right on the inside; between Ajax’s legs, long transverse spear with point upwards. BCD 457.2 (same dies). Jameson 1147. An attractive, toned piece of excellent style. Good very fine.
