ILLYRIA, Apollonia. Circa 300 BC. Stater (Silver, 10.64 g 4). Cow standing right, her head bent back to left to suckle her calf, kneeling left beneath her. Rev. Α Π Double stellate pattern in the form of a square within a double linear border; all within linear circle. BMC 1 (same dies?), SNG Copenhagen 370 (same dies). Very rare. Struck on a broad flan. Nearly extremely fine.

Apollonia was an Illyrian harbor city that was founded by colonists from Corinth and, probably, Corcyra as well. Its stater coinage is very rarely found.
