Divus Augustus. Died AD 14. Antoninianus (Silver, 3.76 g 7), Struck under Trajan Decius, 249-251, mid 251. DIVO AVGVSTO Radiate head of Augustus to right Rev. CONSECRATIO Square altar with two doors on podium, with flames on top but without side ornaments. RIC 78. Well centered and attractive. Extremely fine.

Trajan Decius produced an important series of antoniniani commemorating eleven of his predecessors (somewhat surprisingly including Commodus). The reverses bear either an eagle or an altar, which can, however, be shown in varying ways. Most of the altars have side ornaments at their corners, and some can have a wavy top; a few, as this, have a completely plain, flat top.
