BYZANTINE WEIGHTS, Eastern Mediterranean/Aegean Area. Circa 6th-7th century. Weight of 2-nomismata (?) (Brass, 18x5 mm, 9.02 g), probably a discoid coin weight with recessed top and bottom, centering holes and a plain, convex edge (as MAH A6), nomisma of 4.51 g. Centering hole with slightly raised rims within a surrounding depression, all at the center of a convex field ornamented with punched decoration - possibly with letters but none are visible due to encrustations. Rev. Plain with a centering hole with a slightly raised rim. No similar piece found. Covered in reddish-green encrustations. About very fine.
