Very rare and unusually nice Litra from Galaria

SICILY, Galaria. Circa 460 BC. Litra (Silver, 12mm, 0.52 g 7). ΣOTEP Zeus seated left, holding eagle in right hand. Rev. ΓAΛA Dionysos standing left, holding kantharos in his right hand and bunch of grapes in his left. Jameson 574. Jenkins pg. 87, Group I. Very rare and unusually nice. Flan slightly bent, otherwise, good very fine.


From a collection in Ticino, formed over 20 years ago.

Galaria was a minor town in inland Sicily that is almost unknown to history save for its very limited 5th Century coinage and for brief mentions by Diodoros concerning the 4th Century.
