From a collection in Ticino, formed over 20 years ago.

Akrai was a small colony founded by Syracuse in 664 BC to secure the inland road to Gela. Its only autonomous coinage dates to the period after the capture of Syracuse by Marcellus and is likely connected to administrative changes Rome implemented on its province.
