Magnentius, 350-353. Solidus (Gold, 23mm, 3.84 g 6), Treveri, 353. D N MAGNENTIVS AVG Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Magnentius to right. Rev. VICT CAES LIB ROM ORB Victory standing right, holding palm frond over her left shoulder; Libertas standing left, holding transverse scepter with her left; they support between them a plain shaft carrying a trophy. Bastien 76 (same dies, two examples cited). Blätter für Münzfreunde 56, 1921, pl. 246, 14. Depeyrot 13/2. RIC VIII 296. F. Trau Collection, Gilhofer & Ranschburg and A. Hess, 1935, 4288 (same dies). Extremely rare, apparently only the third specimen known. A well-struck and attractive example, much better than the Trau specimen. Some scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
