PISIDIA, Apollonia-Mordiaeum. Gallienus, 253-268. Oktassarion (Bronze, 42mm, 30.86 g 6). AVT K ΠAI ΓAΛΛIHN Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gallienus to right. Rev. AΠOΛΛΩNIATΩN / ΛV ΘPKO Gallienus, holding spear and globe (?), standing to left within octastyle temple. SNG Paris 1365-6. SNG von Aulock 4999. Von Aulock, Pisidien II, 157. Very fine.


The reverse of this coin is boasting the Lycian (ΛV) and Thracian (ΘPKO) heritage of the city. Epigraphic evidence from the vicinity of the town (esp. names on graveyards) confirms the settlement of Lycians and Thracians, although the date of the settlement is unknown. It may have occured as early as during the reign of the first Diadochs.
