ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ / 1911 Elderly head of George I to left; below truncation, in tiny letters, Γ. ΙΑΚΩΒΙΔΗΣ; privy marks cornucopia (for the Mint Director) and torch (for the Engraver General, Henri-Auguste Patey, 1896-1930) flanking the date. Rev. ΔΡΑΧΜH Veiled Thetis, seated to left on a hippocamp swimming to right, holding, with her right hand, the shield of Achilles adorned with a facing gorgoneion, and resting her left at her waist. SICILY. Leontini. Circa 425-420 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.76 g, 5 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind, olive spray. Rev. LEO-NT-I-N-ON Head of roaring lion to right, with open jaws and tongue protruding; three barley grains around; below, mullet swimming to right. Boehringer, Münzgeschichte 62 = de Luynes 1000 (same dies). Gillet 652 (same dies). HGC 2, 674. Rare type. Attractive cabinet tone and of fine style. Good very fine.
