KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29.5 mm, 17.07 g, 11 h), struck posthumously, at an uncertain mint, but possibly Byzantion, c. 260. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, leaning her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right; behind, transverse spear with point below; in the exergue, Ζ. Martin, "A Third Century B.C. Hoard From Thessaly at the ANS," ANSMN 26, 1981, 557 (Byzantion). Müller 515. With an impressive, rather tough and solid portrait, very reminiscent of the earlier portraits of Philetairos. Nearly extremely fine.

From a Swiss collection.
