Medallion (Bronze, 33 mm, 26.38 g, 6 h), a struck original, by Bartolomeo Campi (c. 1525-1573), on the construction of the fortification of Senigallia, planned c. 1533-1541 and begun in 1546, undated but circa 1546. GVIDVS VBALDVS• II• VRBINI• DVX• IIII• Head of Guidobaldo II della Rovere to right; in the field to left next to the neck truncation, engraver's monogram. Rev. •GENERA• EXERCI• SANC• RO •ECCLES• (= General of the army of the holy Roman church) Plan of the fortification of Senigallia; within the walls, in four lines, CVI• NO/VA• SVR/GIT• SE/NOGAL (= for whom the new Senigallia rises). Attwood 740 (but a cast). Börner 732 (but a cast). Extremely rare. With a fine portrait and a lovely brown patina. Extremely fine.
