[ΑYΤ Κ Τ ΑΙ]Λ ΑΔΡ ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟC CEB EYCEΒ Laureate head of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. L E Herakles advancing left, with his lion's skin tied around his neck, raising club, held in his right hand, and preparing to strike the Hydra, portrayed as a woman with serpent feet and with a left arm ending in snakes, whom he grasps with his left hand. Dattari (Savio) 2598 var. (draped and cuirassed). Geissen -. K&G -. RPC IV.4 Online temp. 17017 (this coin). An extremely rare type with a fascinating view of Herakles attacking the partially human Hydra of Lerna. Dark brown patina with reddish-gold highlights. Traces of cleaning, flan fault on the obverse, and some smoothing, otherwise, good very fine.
