IONIA. Uncertain mint, perhaps Erythrae . Circa 600-570 BC. Hemistater (Electrum, 16 mm, 7.02 g). A complex floral design. Rev. Two rough incuse square punches separated by a central rectangular incuse punch. Unpublished, but from the same series as Linzalone 1139-1142 and cf. the 1/24th stater, SNG Kayhan 1531, with which it shares a reverse punch. Of great rarity, and with a complex, entwined floral design. Very fine.

From the Acer Rubrum Collection, acquired in 2013.

Floral design patterns are quite unusual in early coinage: some are based on a fleur de lis, while others, as this, have a more complicated interlaced pattern.
